I was talking to Mi-Snownut about mods to his new Backcountry but sending pics via PM is a pain in the butt so I will put some here for all to see. These are done to my Summit XP X so some may not apply to a short track.
First of all get some rail stiffners, two trips and this is how bad mine are. I did just now put stiffners on but the damage has already been done. You can get these from doo or C & T makes a stiffer set.

Number of downloads: 0This one is tough to do on a new sled but drill some holes in the clutch side panel to allow some air flow over the clutches. You won't believe how much heat pours out of here. The best way to do this is to use graph paper and create a pattern that you like and fits the area. Next tape the graph paper to your panel and use a small drill bit to drill out all the intersections of the graph lines within your design. Take your paper off and drill out the holes with a larger size.

This will allow air to flow from the vent holes in the front of the sled, over your clutches and out your new vent holes in your side panel.

Number of downloads: 0If you have the Summit skis, switch them side for side so the the keel is on the inside instead of the outside. You won't believe how much this helps in sidehilling and carving.

Number of downloads: 0Drill out your ball joints, run a tap in and put a zert on top. Now you can pump a little grease in your joint and it should last the life of the sled. Just remember to put some grease on you drill and tap so metal shavings don't get into the ball joint cavity.

Number of downloads: 0Put some foam stripes along the top of your air intake. This will keep the heat from the engine compartment from pouring over your intake screen which creates all that ice buildup and stops airflow.

I'm currently have a real nice 4 place enclosed trailer which is real nice with 3-5 people but I'm really considering a sled deck for the trips when I only have 2 sleds.
I had considered a 2 place trailer but the ultimate in fuel savings would come with no trailer at all! Basically just looking for any info I can find like cost, ease of using, anyone with a homemade one, good brands and maybe dealers in the area. Also if anyone has blueprints for a simple design that loads with a ramp I may consider just making one myself. BTW, Weight shouldn't be an issue as my truck is a 2500hd. Later J |
