I was talking to Mi-Snownut about mods to his new Backcountry but sending pics via PM is a pain in the butt so I will put some here for all to see. These are done to my Summit XP X so some may not apply to a short track.
First of all get some rail stiffners, two trips and this is how bad mine are. I did just now put stiffners on but the damage has already been done. You can get these from doo or C & T makes a stiffer set.

This one is tough to do on a new sled but drill some holes in the clutch side panel to allow some air flow over the clutches. You won't believe how much heat pours out of here. The best way to do this is to use graph paper and create a pattern that you like and fits the area. Next tape the graph paper to your panel and use a small drill bit to drill out all the intersections of the graph lines within your design. Take your paper off and drill out the holes with a larger size.

Next drill a bunch of holes in your clutch gaurd, not sure how much this helps but it makes me feel better. lol Also get ride of the plastic tool carrier on the belt gaurd and put your tool kit in your back pack or somewhere else. This will allow air to flow from the vent holes in the front of the sled, over your clutches and out your new vent holes in your side panel.

If you have the Summit skis, switch them side for side so the the keel is on the inside instead of the outside. You won't believe how much this helps in sidehilling and carving.

Drill out your ball joints, run a tap in and put a zert on top. Now you can pump a little grease in your joint and it should last the life of the sled. Just remember to put some grease on you drill and tap so metal shavings don't get into the ball joint cavity.

Put some foam stripes along the top of your air intake. This will keep the heat from the engine compartment from pouring over your intake screen which creates all that ice buildup and stops airflow.

Lastly, if you want an improvement in your headlights, try some Silverstar Ultra bulbs. They come in the same wattage as stock but are a much brighter whiter light. I don't have a side by side comparison right now but the difference is very noticable.

This is all I have for now, if I think of anything else I will add it to the list.

I like the nipple in the lower ball joint! I will have to do that one!!!

Here are how I made my vents. Total cost $15 for all of them. Materials, steel mesh, screen door screen, spray glue, 2" hole saw

Clutch guard vented

Air box vented (also covered with steel mesh)

Guage cluster vents

Side pannel

All vents done.

Great looking vents!! Did you have a bogging issue before your airbox mod?

Yes I did.....BAD. I don't think my "pop" valve was working on the air box. Due to chitty snow conditions, I havn't not got to fully these this out. But so far so good, no bogging, and the plugs still look thumbsup2.gif Coming not soon enough we are heading to Togwotee for a week smile.gif

Leaving for Togwotee myslef the 25th, I don't have the airbox mod done so I hope I'm ok? Over the summer when I have more time I may give it a try.
